Cultivating Entrepreneurial Mindsets On A Global Scale With Jonathan Ortmans

Today’s guest is Jonathan Ortmans, founder of the Global Entrepreneurship Network. He is one of the few true global thinkers, leaders, and doers when it comes to promoting entrepreneurship as a means of both economic and human development. And it all started as a result of his own entrepreneurial journey. After starting and exiting several companies, he recognized the need to encourage and support entrepreneurship as a means of “economic gardening.” In this episode, we talk about ecosystems, policy, culture, and most importantly—how we activate the potential in ordinary people to solve problems and create value.

Reflective Thoughts From Gary Schoeniger

After Global Entrepreneurship Week last month, I feel compelled to share my reflections on the worldwide effort to promote vibrant entrepreneurial ecosystems: most notably, the need to distinguish between traditional entrepreneurship education and entrepreneurial mindset education.

Whereas traditional entrepreneurship education focuses primarily on new venture creation, entrepreneurial mindset education cultivates a fundamental shift in thinking—one that awakens something powerful within us. It enables us to see the world differently: to recognize possibilities where we once saw obstacles, and to shift from simply reacting to circumstances to actively creating value, regardless of where we start. It helps us realize that we do, in fact, have something meaningful to contribute—and that by solving problems for others, we can empower ourselves.

The Entrepreneurial Mindset Advantage

Combining the stories of everyday entrepreneurs with research in behavioral science, this new book shares a practical five-step how-to guide and shows readers how to use an entrepreneurial mindset to better identify opportunities, mobilize resources, and make things happen in their lives while also encouraging others to do the same.
